This means that the shipyard in Haderslev is already adding a fifth ship to its still young XC cruising programme. In addition, there are currently seven models from the sporty XP performance programme (33 to 65 feet) as well as the two uncompromising racers X-35 and X-41. Hardly any other shipyard currently offers such a comprehensive, clearly structured and clearly graduated range as X-Yachts.
The new "small" 35 is faithful to the deliberately classic lines of the XC programme by designer and shipyard founder Niels Jeppesen. This means a positive stern, moderate lines and a light, visually pleasing deck step. The fixed windscreen in front of the companionway also speaks in favour of the cruising orientation. On the other hand, the performance-orientated underwater appendages with L-keel and a ballast proportion of one third of the total weight stand for sportiness and high performance potential. Niels Jeppesen has designed the hull of the XC-35 in a comparatively deep V-shape. This should make the boat easy to manoeuvre, especially in rough seas.
The XC-35 is built as a GRP sandwich construction and is fitted with a solid steel frame for optimum load distribution. This means that the shrouds can still be attached on the inside, close to the cabin superstructure. In addition to the standard 106 per cent genoa, the boat can also be fitted with a larger genoa with 135 per cent overlap - ideal for sailing in the Mediterranean or in light wind areas such as Lake Constance. The aluminium mast stands on the keel and is equipped with a rod rig and a strong backstay tensioner as standard. The cockpit comes with two steering wheels, providing a clear passage to and from the bathing platform. The folding bathing platform is significantly larger on the new boat and in comparison to the XC-38.
The interior features a spacious double cabin both aft and forward. There is also a toilet room with shower option. And: contrary to the general but controversial trend, X-Yachts is sticking to a fully-fledged separate navigation system. No alternatives to this layout are planned.
X-Yachts is quoting a price of 190,280 euros for the XC-35, including VAT but excluding sails. The boat will be presented for the first time in spring 2014.
